  Full list of RPM packages in the KDE-1.1 "rh42", "rh50egcs" and "rh5x"
  RPM package series for Red Hat Linux 4.2, 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2, available
  at ftp.kde.org.

  The i386 versions of these RPM packages  are available at
  ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/1.1/distribution/rpm/ in the
  RReeddHHaatt--44..22//ii338866, RReeddHHaatt--55..00--eeggccss//ii338866, RReeddHHaatt--55..11//ii338866, and
  RReeddHHaatt--55..22//ii338866 subdirectories.  RPM packages for other architectures
  may be available; substitute the architecture name (e.g, alpha) for
  i386.


  To help install KDE-1.1 on Red Hat Linux, an iinnssttaallllaattiioonn ttooooll is
  provided:

  +o  kde-installer:

     Description :

     This package provides the tools for installation of KDE-1.1 on Red
     Hat Linux 4.2, 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 systems: documentation in
     /usr/doc/KDE-1.1 and scripts to install the KDE RPM packages:

  +o  install-KDE-1.1        (installs KDE-1.1)

  +o  install-KDE-1.1-apps   (allows selection of applications to add)

  +o  uninstall-KDE-1.1      (uninstalls KDE-1.1)

     This should be the very first KDE RPM package installed; after it
     is installed, just run "install-kde-1.1", tell it where to find the
     KDE RPM packages, and follow the directions.




  The KKDDEE BBaassee SSyysstteemm consists of the following required RPM packages:

  +o  kdesupport:

     Description :

     Support Libraries used by the K Desktop Environment, but which are
     not part of KDE itself.

     Libraries included: uulib, mimelib; depending on the Red Hat
     release, libraries gdbm, jpeg and gif are either also included, or
     the versions supplied by Red Hat are required.  (The library
     QwSpriteField used by the "asteroids" game is now placed in a
     separate subpackage).

     This package also provides extra KDE support for Red Hat Linux: a
     script "usekde" that users can run to set up KDE as their default
     desktop, and scripts for activating the KDE X Display Manager "kdm"
     to replace "xdm".


  +o  kdelibs:

     Description :

     Libraries for the K Desktop Environment: KDE Libraries included:
     kdecore (KDE core library), kdeui (user interface), kfm (file
     manager), khtmlw (HTML widget), kfile (file access), kspell
     (spelling checker), jscript (javascript), kab (addressbook), kimgio
     (image manipulation), mediatool (sound, mixing and animation).


  +o  kdebase:

     Description :

     Core applications for the K Desktop Environment.  Included are:
     kdm (replacement for xdm), kwm (window manager), kfm (filemanager,
     web browser, ftp client, ...), konsole (xterm replacement), kpanel
     (application starter and desktop pager), kaudio (audio server),
     kdehelp (viewer for kde help files, info and man pages), plus other
     KDE components (kcheckpass, kikbd, kvt, kscreensaver, kcontrol,
     kfind, kfontmanager, kmenuedit, kappfinder).


   OOppttiioonnaall AApppplliiccaattiioonn PPaacckkaaggeess..

  The optional KDE application RPM packages are listed below, grouped by
  the KDE application collection they come from.  The names of the
  actual applications contained in each package are listed in
  parentheses.

  +o  These application packages can be obtained individually, or in a
     large kkddee--aapppplliiccaattiioonnss RPM package that when installed, just places
     the set of individual optional-application RPM packages in
     /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386 (or any other desired location using the
     rpm -Uvh ... --prefix ...  option).

  There is a single additional optional support library, required only
  for the game package kdegames-asteroids:

     Description :

     This package provides the QwSpriteField library that is used by
     certain KDE games, such as the Asteroids game ("kasteroids").

  +o  kdeadmin-user (kuser):

     Description :

     This is the application "kuser" from the "kdeadmin" collection of
     KDE applications. It provides a graphical interface for managing
     user accounts and group membership.

     Description :

     This is the application "ksysv" from the "kdeadmin" collection of
     KDE applications. It is a graphical tool for configuring Unix
     System V type startup and shutdown of system services.

  +o  kdeadmin-backup (kdat):

     Description :

     This is the application "kdat" from the "kdeadmin" collection of
     KDE applications. It is a tape backup utility originally written
     for DAT tape drives, but will work with other tape drives.

  +o  kdeadmin-asteroids (kasteroids):

     Description :

     This is the arcade game "Asteroids" from the "kdegames" collection
     of KDE applications:.

     Description :

     This is a selection of boardgames from the "kdegames" collection of
     KDE applications:.

  +o  kabalone The board game "Abalone"

  +o  kblackbox ("Black Box")

  +o  kreversi ("Reversi")

  +o  ksame ("Same Game")

  +o  kmine ("Minesweeper")


  +o  kdegames-cardgames (kpat, kpoker):

     Description :

     This is a selection of card games from the "kdegames" collection of
     KDE applications:

  +o  kpat, The classical patience game

  +o  kpoker, The poker game


  +o  kdegames-dominogames (kmahjongg, kshisen):

     Description :

     This is a selection of domino-type games from the "kdegames"
     collection of KDE applications:

  +o  kmahjongg, played with Chinese domino tiles

  +o  kshisen, Shisen-so, played with Mahjongg tiles.


  +o  kdegames-konquest (konquest):

     Description :

     This is  the game "konquest" from the "kdegames" collection of KDE
     applications. It is the KDE version of the game "GNU-lactic
     Konquest".


  +o  kdegames-sirtet (ktetris):

     Description :

     This package contains "sirtet" (alias "ktetris") from the
     "kdegames" collection of KDE applications.  It is a game similar to
     Tetris(tm).


  +o  kdegames-smiletris (ksmiletris):

     Description :

     This package contains "ksmiletris" from the "kdegames" collection
     of KDE applications.  It is a game similar to Tetris(tm).


  +o  kdegames-snakerace (ksnake):

     Description :

     This is  the game "Snake Race" from the "kdegames" collection of
     KDE applications.


  +o  kdegames-sokoban (ksokoban):

     Description :

     This is  the game "Sokoban" from the "kdegames" collection of KDE
     applications.

  +o  kdegraphics-dviviewer (kdvi):

     Description :

     This is the application "kdvi" from the "kdegraphics" collection of
     KDE applications.  It displays TeX dvi-file output.  (replacement
     for xdvi)


  +o  kdegraphics-faxviewer (kfax):

     Description :

     This is the application "kfax" from the "kdegraphics" collection of
     KDE applications. It displays fax output.


  +o  kdegraphics-fractals (kfract):

     Description :

     This is  the application "kfract" from the "kdegraphics" collection
     of KDE applications. It is a Mandelbrot set generator.


  +o  kdegraphics-ghostview (kghostview):

     Description :

     This is the application kghostview from the "kdegraphics"
     collection of KDE applications. It displays postscript output.
     (replacement for ghostview and gv).


  +o  kdegraphics-iconeditor (kiconedit)

     Description :

     This is the icon-editing application "kiconedit" from the
     "kdegraphics" collection of KDE applications.


  +o  kdegraphics-imageviewer (kview):

     Description :

     This is  the application "kview" from the "kdegraphics" collection
     of KDE applications. It is an image viewer for GIF, JPEG, TIFF,
     etc.


  +o  kdegraphics-paint (kpaint):

     Description :

     This is  the application "kpaint" from the "kdegraphics" collection
     of KDE applications. It is a simple painting/drawing program.


  +o  kdegraphics-snapshot (ksnapshot):

     Description :

     This is  the application "ksnaphot" from the kdegraphics collection
     of KDE applications. It is a screen-capture utility.

  +o  kdemultmedia-cdplayer (kcsd)

     Description :

     This is the cdplayer, "kscd", from the "kdemultimedia" collection
     of applications. It plays sound on compact discs, and can access
     the online CDDB database for sound track information.


  +o  kdemultmedia-mediatool (kmedia):

     Description :

     This is "kmedia" from the "kdemultimedia" collection of KDE
     applications.  This is a media player that can play various type of
     multimedia objects, such as audio (*.wav) files, MIDI music
     (*.mid), MPEG videos (*.mpg, *.mpeg), and Soundtracker modules
     (*.mod, mod.*)



  +o  kdemultmedia-midi (kmidi)

     Description :

     This is a MIDI player, kmidi, based on the TIMIDITY midi player,
     from the "kdemultimedia" collection of KDE applications.


  +o  kdemultmedia-midikaraoke (kmid)

     Description :

     This is a MIDI player, "kmid", featuring real-time graphics and
     karaoke text highlighting of lyrics, from the "kdemultimedia"
     collection of KDE applications.


  +o  kdemultmedia-mixer (kmix)

     Description :

     This is the sound mixer control panel "kmix", from the
     "kdemultimedia" collection of KDE applications.



   kkddeenneettwwoorrkk ccoolllleeccttiioonn::

  +o  kdenetwork-irc (ksirc)

     Description :

     This is the application "ksirc" from the "kdenetwork" collection of
     KDE applications. It is a client for Internet Relay Chat.

     (not available for Red Hat 4.2).



  +o  kdenetwork-mail (kmail)

     Description :

     This is the application "kmail" from the "kdenetwork" collection of
     KDE applications. It is a fully-featured mail client for reading,
     sending, and managing electronic mail.


  +o  kdenetwork-news (krn)

     Description :

     This is the application "krn" from the "kdenetwork" collection of
     KDE applications. It is a news reader application for use with
     Internet newsgroups.


  +o  kdenetwork-ppp (kppp)

     Description :

     This is the application "kppp" from the "kdenetwork" collection of
     KDE applications. It provides a graphical interface for setting up
     and managing ppp internet connections over telephone lines, with
     using "rules" customized for the telephone systems of many
     different countries.


  +o  kdenetwork-talk (ktalkd)

     Description :

     This is the application "ktalkd" from the "kdenetwork" collection
     of KDE applications. It provides a "daemon" for managing direct
     communication over a network with the keyboard using the "talk"
     protocol.



  +o  kdenetwork-tools (karchie, kbiff, korn, kfinger, knu)


     Description :

     This package supplies some network utilities from the "kdenetwork"
     collection of KDE applications:

  +o  karchie, graphical interface for searching ftp sites on the using
     "archie".

  +o  kbiff, a mail delivery notification application.

  +o  korn, a mailbox monitoring tool.

  +o  kfinger, a graphical interface to the "finger" utility.

  +o  knu, a graphical interface to network utilities such as traceroute.

  +o  kdetoys-moonphase (kmoon)

     Description :

     This is the application "kmoon" from the "kdetoys" collection of
     KDE \ applications. It places an icon showing the current phase of
     the moon in the KDE Desktop panel.



  +o  kdetoys-mousepedometer (kodo, a.k.a. "mouse")

     Description :

     This is the application "kodo" (alias "mouse") from the "kdetoys"
     collection of KDE applications.   It is a "mouse pedometer" which
     measures the total distance your mouse pointer travels across the
     computer screen.


  +o  kdetoys-worldwatch  (kworldwatch)

     Description :

     This is the application "kworldwatch" from the "kdetoys" collection
     of KDE applications.  It shows a world map divided into current
     day/night regions, and reports the local and GMT time.

  +o  kdeutils-addressbook (kab)

     Description :

     This provides "kab", the addressbook application from the
     "kdeutils" colection of KDE applications.

  +o  kdeutils-kwrite (kwrite)

     Description :

     This provides "kwrite", an advanced editor for use with KDE, that
     is an application from the "kdeutils" collection of KDE
     applications.  It is useful for writing text documents, but has
     many extra features useful for a Programmer's editor, including a
     colorized syntax for many programming languages.   It can be a
     partial alternative to more powerful Programmer's editors such as
     Emacs and XEmacs, and has features that can be used in conjuction
     with the KDE filemanager, KFM.


  +o  kdeutils-ljettool (kljettool)

     Description :

     This provides "kljettool", an application from the "kdeutils"
     collection of KDE applications for adjusting the settings of HP
     LaserJet(tm) printers, or any other printer that understands HP's
     PJL (Printer Job Language).


  +o  kdeutils-notejotter (kjots)

     Description :

     This provides "kjots", an application from the "kdeutils"
     collection of KDE applications, for "jotting down" (writing) and
     organizing small notes.


  +o  kdeutils-notes (knotes)

     Description :

     This provides "knotes", an application from the "kdeutils"
     collection of KDE applications that simulates "Post-It"(R) notes
     for placing short messages on your computer screen (but are much
     more versatile than the paper variety!)


  +o  kdeutils-timetracker (karm)

     Description :

     This provides "karm", the time tracker application from the
     "kdeutils" collection of KDE applications. It allows you to keep
     track of how much time you spend on different projects.


  +o  kdeutils-tools (ark kcalc kfloppy kedit khexdit klipper klpq kpm)



     Description :

     Utilities for the K Desktop Environment. Includes:

  +o  ark, a graphical front end to archive utilities such as GNU tar.

  +o  kcalc, a scientific calculator.

  +o  kfloppy, formats floppy disks in either msdos or ext2 format.

  +o  kedit, a simple text editor

  +o  khexdit, an editor for binary (hexadecimal) files.

  +o  klipper, a tool for managing the cut-and-paste clipboard history.

  +o  klpq, a print queue manager

  +o  kpm,  manages the processes running on the system





  The following are ""ssttaannddaalloonnee"" KKDDEE aapppplliiccaattiioonnss included in the
  KDE-1.1 distribution:

  +o  korganizer

     Description :

     KOrganizer is a complete calendar and scheduling program for KDE.
     It allows interchange with other calendar applications through the
     industry-standard vCalendar file format.


  The following are "standalone" KDE applications not included in the
  KDE-1.1 distribution, but supplied here:

  +o  kpackage-1.1.2

     Description :

     kpackage is an graphical interface for managing .rpm (and .deb)
     packages.  It can install and uninstall them, query the rpm
     database, etc.
