Algae is an interpreted language for numerical analysis. Algae borrows
ideas from languages like C, MATLAB, and APL, but it was developed in
response to a need for a free, efficient, and versatile high-level
language with large problem capability.

Algae was designed and implemented by Scott Hunziker and Mike Brennan.

The file "doc/algae.ps" is the Algae User's Manual in postscript form.
A list of known bugs is given in the "Bugs" section of the manual.
Read the file "INSTALL" for installation instructions. The file
"NEWS" describes significant changes made between versions. The
"examples" directory contains some warped examples -- look at the
files in the "tools" directory for more typical Algae code.

Algae is available for anonymous ftp at ftp.eskimo.com in "~ksh/algae".
You can also get it from the Algae Home Page on the WWW at
"http://www.eskimo.com/~ksh/algae/".
