gtkfaim-sounds-for-0.03pre7...

This is the optional package for gtkfaim as of 0.03pre7 that's got some
sound related things in it that you might want (completely optional).

Installation:
 1) mkdir ~/.faim
 2) cp * ~/.faim
 2b) (if it didn't take) chmod +x ~/.faim/on*
 3) look at faimrc_withsound
 4) merge the lines you want into your own ~/.faimrc

All the scripts do is cat the au files into /dev/audio (which hopefully
you have). A more optimal solution is to go get eSounD and redo the
scripts to use that (there's many cases where you can get more than
one event that happens at the same time, the second occuring before
the first is finished playing, etc -- you'll get a "/dev/audio Device or
resource is busy" when this happens; esound will naturally multiplex and
mix multiple channels for you so this won't happen). [esound can be
found in many places, search for it on freshmeat.net or go to gnome.org]

Since you can do anything you want in the scripts, this is obviously very
powerful. Have fun with it.

BTW, the au files came directly from the AIM Java 1.1.19 distribution, so
beware you're probably violating some MORE laws by using them. Please, if
you have less annoying sounds, please let me know, esp if they have no
possibility of being encumbered by stupid AOL agreements...
