What is PhroMail?
---------------------------

Essentially, PhroMail is a GTK+ based email notification program, ala
xbiff. The biggest feature is that it's designed to work nicely with
multiple inboxes. I subscribe to several fairly high-traffic mailing
lists, and have them split into several spool files, so most of the mailing
lists never touch my main inbox. I found it really annoying to have to
fire up half a dozen xbif's to get news of incoming mail, so I wrote
PhroMail to handle this. PhroMail also counts the number of messages in
each inbox, letting you know just how much mail you have in each one at
any given time.

Config file
---------------------------

The path to the config file must be specified as an argument when run.
Currently this is the only thing accepted on the command line (hey, it's
the first release! don't worry, there will be options in later releases.)
The format is very simple:

label /path/to/inbox

label is a single word which will be used to identify that mailbox in the
display. The rest of the line is taken as the full path to the mailbox to
the watched.

Latest Release
---------------------------

Currently, they'll be placed at ftp://paramount.res.wpi.net/pub/phromail
There's a good chance this machine will be going away eventually, I'll try
to get word out to freshmeat or cola when I have a new site. If you have
any questions, comments, etc, let me know at rasmusin@wpi.edu

Where the heck did you come up with *that* name?
---------------------------

When I first started writing this program, I didn't have a good name for
it. I mentioned to a friend of mine - you guessed it, his nickname was
Phro - that I was writing an xbiff replacement. He said "Yeah! You can
call it phromail - it'll send you mail to let you know that you've got new
mail!" While the overall idea didn't quite pan out, the name stuck.
