Why does my list not show up?

Not quite sure about this one yet.
I beleive it's due to the fact that there may be another
spat client that is requesting a user list. While your spatd
is responding your list does not show up. This is probably
more frequent on heavy traffic networks.

I am not receiving or I am not able to send messages?!

Please make sure that your Ethernet Interface ( probably eth0 )
has the same broadcast address of everyone else.

For instance. If your interface is 10.0.0.12 with a broadcast address
of 10.255.255.255 the machine you are sending to must have the same.
I have seen interfaces configure themselves with an IP of 10.0.0.15 and
a broadcast of 10.0.0.255... This is not neccesarraly incorrect. Just
make sure that everyone is on a homogeneous broadcast.

Can I send a message to multiple users?

 Yes and no.
As of 1.0 and under, you can send messages to EVERYONE or just ONE person.
You cannot (yet) send messages to groups of people

Can I send to someone on the Internet?

 No.
As of 1.0 and under, you cannot send a message to anyone over the internet.
I am sure though, if you try hard enough it may work, but it is not supported
yet for two reasons. 1) It is not there yet, and 2) Possible security compromises.

Why is spat not like A*L Instant Messanger or **BLANK** IM??

 Becuase it is not.
Spat was designed as more of a graphical version of the unix "write".
Spat is for sending simple little messages to users on your network.
It is not a CHAT application.
If you want a CHAT application check out IRC or any one of the numerous
 Instant Messangers.
