libQGLViewer installation

libQGLViewer can easily be installed on many architectures. It was tested on Linux (gcc version 2.96 and 3), SGI IRIX 6.5, Windows, Mac OS X and QNX. Let me know if you encountered problems that could be reported on this page or if you compiled it on another architecture.

libQGLViewer is distributed under the GNU-GPL licence and is provided as-is with no guarantee.

Select your architecture :

Linux and Unix

The easiest way to install the library on Linux is to use the RPM pre-compiled version (see the RPM page for details):

rpm -Uvh libQGLViewer-1.2.8-1.i586.rpm
libQGLViewer-devel-1.2.8-1.i586.rpm

You can also directly compile the sources:

Download libQGLViewer-1.2.8.tar.gz

Compile the library:

> tar -xzf libQGLViewer-1.2.8.tar.gz
> cd libQGLViewer-1.2.8/src
> qmake
> make

In case of compilation troubles, edit config.h and src.pro.

Install the library:
```
> qmake [INCLUDE_DIR=...] [LIB_DIR=...]
> make install
```
The default install directories are /usr/include/QGLViewer and /usr/lib. The optionnal INCLUDE_DIR and LIB_DIR parameters let you customize your installation and are especially useful if you do not have root priviledges on your machine. A typical usage would be: qmake LIB_DIR=$HOME/lib INCLUDE_DIR=$HOME/include.
Compile and test the examples
```
> cd ../examples
> qmake
> make
```
Note that once you installed the library, you may have to set the include and lib paths accordingly in the .pro files.

If Qt is not installed on your system, download and install the free Qt/X11 non commercial version.
Try to compile a simple Qt example and check the Qt FAQ page in case of problem. You will probably need to set some Qt variables:

tcsh > setenv QTDIR /usr/lib/qt3 (/usr/share/qt on debian)
bash > export QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt3 (/usr/share/qt on debian)
> set PATH=${PATH}:${QTDIR}/bin/
> set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:${QTDIR}/lib

If only the non-threaded version of Qt is installed on your machine (libqt.so instead of libqt-mt.so), simply remove thread from src/src.pro

Windows

Download the sources libQGLViewer-1.2.8.zip
Extract the archive and go to the src directory.
[Optionnal] Tune the GL and GLUT paths in src.pro and config.h.
Use the Open QT project function of MS Visual on src.pro to create QGLViewer.dsp.
Open this file and compile the library (make sure you use the Release setup).
Compile and test the examples, using the same Open QT project procedure to convert .pro into .dsp files.
Move the include files and the library in your standard directories.

If Qt is not installed on your system, download the free Qt/Windows non commercial version (ver 2.3), or the Qt/Desktop 30 day evaluation version (ver 3.0). Some code modifications are needed in order to compile QGLViewer with Qt 2.3 (details to come).

Mac OS X

The installation procedure is very similar to the one described in the linux section, with few differences:

The GL and GLUT paths may have to be tuned in config.h and src.pro.
When installing the library and in order to fit the mac standards, you should use
```
> qmake INSTALL_ROOT=/usr/local
> make install
```

If Qt is not installed on your system, download the free Qt/Desktop 30 day evaluation version for Mac. Another option is to install X11 on your mac, and then to install the Qt-X11 free edition. Some details will be available from here.
