Red Hat Linux/iSeries 7.1 (Seawolf) =================================== The contents of this CD-ROM are Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Red Hat, Inc. and others. Please see the individual copyright notices in each source package for distribution terms. The distribution terms of the tools copyrighted by Red Hat, Inc. are as noted in the file COPYING. Red Hat and RPM are trademarks of Red Hat, Inc. ============================================================================ DIRECTORY ORGANIZATION Red Hat Linux is delivered on three CDROMs. Disc 1 contains the following directory structure: /mnt/redhat |----> RedHat | |----> RPMS -- binary packages | `----> base -- information on this release of Red Hat | Linux used by the installation process |----> ppc | `----> iSeries -- iSeries boot images | |----> COPYING -- copyright information |----> README -- this file |----> RELEASE-NOTES -- the latest information about this release | of Red Hat Linux `----> RPM-GPG-KEY -- GPG signature for packages from Red Hat The directory layout of disc 2 is as follows: /mnt/redhat |----> RedHat | `----> RPMS -- additional binary packages |----> SRPMS -- source packages (more are on the dedicated | SRPMS CD) |----> COPYING -- copyright information |----> README -- this file |----> RELEASE-NOTES -- the latest information about this release | of Red Hat Linux `----> RPM-GPG-KEY -- GPG signature for packages from Red Hat Disc 3 contains only source packages and is not required for installation. See the README file in the top directory od disc 3 for more information. If you are setting up an image for NFS, FTP, or HTTP installations, you need to get everything from the RedHat directory from both CDs. On Linux and Unix, the following process will properly set up the /target/directory on your server for installing Red Hat. 1) Insert disc 1 2) mount /mnt/cdrom 3) cp -a /mnt/cdrom/RedHat /target/directory 4) umount /mnt/cdrom 5) Replace disc 1 with disc 2 6) mount /mnt/cdrom 7) cp -a /mnt/cdrom/RedHat /target/directory 8) umount /mnt/cdrom Copy the file /ppc/iSeries/vmlinux from disc 1 to the OS/400 partition, and set the "IPL stream file" option to boot from that location. If you choose to install from a network source (FTP, HTTP, NFS), or if you choose to perform a GUI install, the Network Configuration screens described in the Installation Guide will occur much earlier in the installation process. ============================================================================ INSTALLING (iSeries) NOTE: Please see the RELEASE-NOTES for additional updates and corrections to the Installation Guide. The Red Hat Linux for iSeries installer can now be run in GUI mode. To run the installer in GUI mode, you'll need a separate machine with an accessible X server. You can tell the installer to redirect graphics to this machine's physical display by adding the parameter 'display=:' to the kernel command line before booting the installer, where is the hostname or IP address of the machine whose display you'll be using and is the number of the display you'll use on that machine. For a machine set up for use as a normal desktop workstation, will generally be 0. Kernel arguments can be set via the "IPL parameters" field of the Network Server Description. Since these parameters are case-sensitive, they should be enclosed within single quotes when entered in the Network Server Description. eg: 'display=daffy.some.domain:0' ============================================================================ INSTALLING MULTIPLE LPARs FROM ONE CDROM Although reported by some to work, installing multiple LPARs simultaneously from one CDROM device is not supported. Use of this functionality is done at your own risk. ============================================================================ JAPANESE LANGUAGE INSTALLS To run the installer in Japanese, you must use GUI mode. See the section about GUI mode installation in this document. GUI mode is only available for CDROM and NFS installation methods If the install is performed using media other than CDROM, the installation program will start initially in text (TUI) mode, which is incapable of displaying multibyte characters. If you choose to use installation media other than CDROM, you will have to select language and installation media/source in the English language. Once the installation media has been located, the installer will start in GUI mode using the Japanese character set and keyboard map on the display you specified. ============================================================================ GETTING HELP For those that have web access, see http://www.redhat.com.
